Opener or door? Know the difference
Many “opener” problems are actually door problems. If a spring is broken, the opener strains against a door it was never meant to lift. A good technician checks the door’s balance before selling you a new motor.
When the opener is the culprit, common fixes include a stripped drive gear, a failed logic board, worn trolley parts, or misaligned safety sensors.
Common opener problems
- Motor hums or clicks but the door doesn’t move
- The door starts closing, then reverses
- Remote or keypad stopped working
- Loud grinding or rattling from the unit
- Lights blink and the door won’t close (usually the safety sensors)
