What knocks a door off track
Doors usually come off track after a cable frays and snaps, a roller wears out and jumps the track, or the door is hit by a car. Once one side stops moving, the other keeps going and the door twists in its opening.
Running the opener on a door in this condition can bend panels and tracks and turn a moderate repair into a door replacement.
Signs you need cable or track repair
- The door hangs crooked or one side is higher

- The door stopped partway and won’t move
